Self-preparation of things: basic mistakes

So, you decided to save money and pack your things on your own. In this case, it is important not to make common mistakes.

Last minute fees

It seems that everything can be assembled in a couple of evenings at the end of the working day. This is the biggest misconception. Most people move with only a few times in their lives, so they rarely get the job done right. Tip: organize a pilot gathering and try to pack the contents of, for example, one of the cabinets. How long did it take? If you have no time to conduct such experiments, here is a spoiler: it is better to start preparing at least two weeks before moving.

Disassembly of furniture

Heavy, bulky and voluminous furniture is best transported unassembled. This will help to compactly and safely lay it in the back of the vehicle, and also reduce the risk of damage. To prepare furniture for the move, arm yourself with a tape measure and stock up on time – it should be measured to assess whether everything will pass through the doorways and fit in the elevator in the new house. Finally, determine what needs to be parsed.

Savings on packaging

In this matter, people show great ingenuity: they ask for used boxes in the store, fit fragile things with stretch instead of bubble wrap and cardboard. But, as we have already said, the cost of packaging is always lower than the cost of restoring damaged items.

Neglect of labeling

It is not enough to write “dishes” or “Vasya’s things” on the box. It is better to indicate on each box the room in which it should be placed and the category of contents. This will facilitate the work of specialists, but most importantly, it will greatly help you with unpacking.
